About this event: TIG/CLCWA- Nigeria National conference (October 12-14)
Related to country: Nigeria

Opening Date: 1st October 2009 – closing date: 1st December 2009

Overview

From the last UN General meeting organize in New York, United State of American, world leaders has fully awaken to their collective responsibilities and the pledge, commitment and support that they owe to their various country. With doubt in our heart if Africa will achieve its own part of the Millennium Development Goals come 2015 calls for active involvement and collaborative approach, as earlier stated by President Bingu wa Mutharika of Malawi:

"The Millennium Promise partnership can evolve into a platform onto which we can achieve international solidarity to meet the challenge of global financial crisis, food shortages, poverty and under-development. We must all believe that the world is one and that the problems are always lighter when they are shared." UN General Assembly September, 2009.

We believe the ‘Community’, working together with the assistance of ‘Global Partners’ can be a better platform in facilitating and fast tracking developmental activities.

The MDGs can then be said to gain positive impact when this duo strategically implement and align plans, projects and policies that is transparent, accountable, effective, efficient, logical, with a time frame, clear vision and a define goals. Looking at the situation at hand, we just have five years to go from 2010, the need to strategically involve NGOs, FBOs, Government agencies, Donors, the community, Stakeholders, Civil society group to brainstorm on topical issues militating against development and the achievement of the MDGs in Africa thus become necessary.

“It is not in the United Nations that the Goals will be achieved.
They have to be achieved in each country by the joint efforts of the
Governments and people.”
Former United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan

This conference which is going to be the largest in Africa on the MDGs will feature over 50 NGOs as co-host from Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, South Africa, Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Algeria, Cameroun, etc), with over 500 support partners across the globe, and over 3,000 participant representing every sector. Participation will be youth focus; programme will also highlight the role of youth in the said subject matter.

The theme of the conference will centered on discussion on the commitment/achievement made so far by African Youth, Leaders, and Representative of all sector, on the MDG. How far will Africa achieve this goal come 2015, (devices strategy and means on pressing topics)? All key point will be centered on the 8 MDGs.
